Acupuncture is based on the theory that the body has an energy force running through it. This energy force known as Qi (pronounced "chee") is responsible for mind-body-spirit functioning of your being - which means your health is a function of your Qi. When there is an imbalance, blockage or interruption of the flow of Qi - illness or pain may occur.
Qi travels throughout your body by way of "meridians" which are energy pathways. Specific acupuncture points along the meridians are used to re balance and unblock our Qi so that health can be restored and maintained. There has been much research confiming the actions and connections of many of the acupuncture points and their effects in areas of the brain. Acupuncture can regulate the circulatory system, digestive system, neuromuscular and endocrine systems. Acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins, your body's natural feel-good chemicals, which help relieve pain and diminish stress. Levels of neurotransmitters such as noradrenaline and serotonin are regulated as is dilation and constriction of blood vessels.
Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine are an effective and safe form of treatment and can be done in conjunction with other western medical and alternative therapies.
